Ernest Parr was born in 1893 in Snailwell, (Newmarket Q3-1893 3B:499), baptised St.Peter's, Snailwell on 6th August 1893, son of Alfred and Elizabeth Ann

1901 census...Aged 7, he was living in Snailwell with his father Alfred PAR [41] stockman, born Chippenham; his mother Elizabeth Ann [38] born Swaffham, Bulbeck; brothers Arthur John [19] a carter, Joseph Henry [18] a navvy; Albert Frederick [16] farm labourer, Alfred [13] farm labourer, Bertram [10] and Victor Gilbert [3] and sisters Ellen Annie [5] and Gladys [6 months]. All the children were born in Snailwell. 1911 census...Aged 18, he was a domestic servant at Auberies Farm, Bulmer Essex, for Walter St.George and Mary Ann BURKE. His parents, brothers Arthur, Alfred, Bertram and Victor and sister Gladys were still together in Snailwell. |

He enlisted in Newmarket. "Soldiers Died" has him in the 2nd Battalion.
His death registration says he died of wounds received in the battle of the Somme. His Army records have not been found so there is no way of telling exactly where and when he was wounded. His headstone says he was wounded at Albert. At the end of August the 7th battalion moved north from the Albert/Pozieres area to Arras. Some wounded were shipped back to UK very quickly, some, with serious wounds had to be stabilised first in General hospitals in France. He died in 2nd West General Hospital, Manchester.
